Dental Marketing 101

I called a new client’s office recently to check up on the project and the front office person picked up and said:

“Doctors office.”

That was it, the extent of the greeting. Not even a “how can I help you” or anything… never mind the fact that I was calling a dental office. In fact, I actually had to ask… “Is this Dr. ________’s office?” to which I was given a stern “yes” answer.

In dental marketing, especially in some more competitive oregions (in this case VERY competitive) a dentist needs to work on differentiating themselves from the masses. With the front office person being the first point of contact for many patients and new patients, your outstanding customer service must start there…

In this case, the simple “Doctor’s office.” greeting turns into…

“Thank you for calling the office of Dr. ________ where we create smiles of a lifetime, my name is Julia, how can I help you.”

I think you can see the difference. Your patients (both new and current) can certainly hear the difference

If I recieved that type of greeting when I called my dentist, it would definitely be a turn off. That greeting is way too impersonal for my tastes. There needs to be some degree of warmth and comfort added to the mix. And you’re right about having to stick out from the masses, how can any doctor expect to excel in the industry without making an effort to be unique in a crowd clones.
